The Black Swan
Dans la théorie financière, “The Black Swan” correspond à des évènements rares, difficiles à prédire et à fort impact bien au-delà du normal (“The Black Swan”, Nassim Nicolas Taleb 2007). Les évènements hautement improbables (comme le récent crach financier) restent invisible et on ne se rend compte du phénomène qu’après coup. Les psychologues nous apprennent que les êtres humains sont câblés pour retenir les détails alors qu’ils devraient appréhender les principes. Nous nous concentrons sur ce qui nous est familier et ne prenons pas toujours en compte l’inconnu.
Ce décalage entre perception et véritable compréhension est le thème de cette exposition. Au travers des peintures de Mireille Blanc et de la vidéo par Andres Laracuente, vous êtes invités à vivre cet instant si particulier pendant lequel l’invisible apparaît inévitablement et dramatiquement.

In the financial theory, “The Black Swan” refers to high impact, hard to predict and rare events beyond the realm of normal expectation (“The Black Swan”, Nassim Nicolas Taleb 2007). The highly improbable events (such as recent market crash) remain unseen and we do not acknowledge the phenomenon until after they do occur. As psychologists reveal, human are hardwired to focus on specific details when they should be look at general principles. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don’t know.
This discordance between modes of perception and true understanding is the theme of the exhibit. Throughout the paintings of Mireille Blanc and a video by Andres Laracuente, we are invited to live the very slight moment in which dramatically and inevitably the unseen show up.
