Coco Dolle

 

 

 

Born 1974 in Avignon, France. Lives and works in New York, USA. Coco Dolle is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose work explores themes of sexuality and gender dynamics. Her drawings, paintings and performance art projects invites a contemplation of female identity and the construction of the self. Examining women's history and empowerment she draws inspiration from pop culture and iconography. She received an early classical training in ballet and contemporary dance from Le Conservatoire de Danse and studied Jazz with celebrity choreographer Mia Frye at le Centre de Danse du Marais in Paris (1989-1994). Influenced by her interest in the visual arts of Cocteau, Magritte and Nikki de Saint-Phale, Coco moved to New York in 1997 to study painting and drawing at The Art Students League and the New York Studio School from which she received painting grants.

 

Her work has been exhibited and performed at The Queens Museum (NY), Brooklyn Academy of Music (NYC), Manchester Art Gallery (United Kingdom), Armory Show (NYC), Miami Art Basel (FL), Berkeley Museum (CA), Mary Ryan Gallery (NYC), Yukiko Kawase Galerie (France), Spring/Break Art Show (NY), Catinca Tabacaru Gallery (NYC), and Deitch Projects (NYC). She has been featured in numerous publications including Forbes Magazine, ArtForum, Creators Project, Vice Magazine, The NY Times, Art News, Time Out New York, Brooklyn Rail, Wild Magazine, BlackBook, NY Observer and Purple Magazine.

 

Coco Dolle is a grant recipient of Arts Council England/Alexandra Arts UK (2016) and the Art Student's League of New York (1999). She was an artist-in-residence at Grace Exhibition Space (2016-2017), Alexandra Arts Manchester Foundation UK (2016), Rosekill International Performance Art Residency (2017-2018) and Gallery Sensei (2014-2015). 

 

Coco Dolle's works are included in numerous private and corporate collections including, Warburg Pincus, LLC, Tim Hunt (Andy Warhol Foundation), The Cleveland Clinic, Jeffrey Lee (Ryan/Lee Gallery) and CCBF.

Née en 1974 à Avignon, France. Vit et travaille à New York, USA. Coco Dolle est une artiste pluridisciplinaire et une curatrice explorant les thème de la sexualité et de la dynamique des genres. Au travers de ces dessins, peintures et performance artistiques, Coco invite le public à une contemplation du féminin et de la construction de soi. Elle y examine l'histoire de la femme et de l'iconographie inspirée par la culture populaire et les médias. Coco a reçu une formation classique de danse en Avignon entourée du Festival annuel international de Théâtre et plus tard a étudié le Street Jazz au Centre de Danse du Marais à Paris. Installée à New York depuis 1997, elle poursuit ses études de peinture et de dessin à l'Art Students League et à la New York Studio School, dont elle recevra des bourses de peinture. Influencée par le pop-art et l'art de Cocteau, Magritte et de Nikki de Saint-Phalle, elle peint une série de peintures naïves qu'elle expose à Yukiko Kawase Galerie, Paris (2005) et à Mary Ryan Gallery, NYC (2007).

Elle a été publiée dans ArtNews, The New York Times, Forbes Magazine, ArtForum, The Steidz Magazine, Creators Project, Vice Magazine, Time Out New York, NY Observer and Purple Magazine. Coco a reçu une bourse de l' Arts Council England/Alexandra Arts UK (2016).  Coco a été une artiste-en-résidence à Grace Exhibition Space (2016-2017), Alexandra Arts Manchester Foundation UK (2016), Rosekill International Performance Art Residency (2017-2018) et Gallery Sensei (2014-2015).
